Geometric shapes run the length of this modern tablescape.
- 5.5″ x 2.625″ rectangle craft wood cutouts
- hot glue gun and glue
- craft felt
- painter’s tape
- assorted paint colors
- paint brushes
Paint your cutouts in your base color, then set aside to dry.
Assemble the planks so they tile together as shown in illustration #1. Turn them over so the unpainted side is exposed. Line the cutouts with craft felt and attach the felt with hot glue. Let the glue set, then turn the whole piece over so the painted sides are facing upwards. Trim away any excess felt.
Tape off the wood cutouts in your desired pattern so that you can paint in between the taped areas. To create the pattern we used, follow the taping pattern shown in illustration #2.
Paint the pattern onto the tiled runner, ensuring that the colors are random and two samples of the same shade do not end up next to each other. To break up the pattern, we opted to leave some rectangles blank rather than painting each diamond in. Let the paint dry, then remove the tape. Touch up the paint if necessary,
